Recently I was tasked with the opportunity to work with the Doubletree by Hilton Regina on a multi-day marketing campaign. Because of the amount of gear I have to travel with, going by road was the best solution. The trip, if only stopping for short breaks takes between 13.5-14 hours. It’s a bit of a haul but the prairies, after leaving BC make for a fairly leisurely drive.

This specific project involved a diverse workload, including food and beverage, new renovations and aerial / drone work. For food and beverage we captured various dishes, the new bar and restaurant renovations and drinks. These were shot with both natural and artificial lighting, using the mood of the bar’s backdrop.
Other renovation images included ballrooms, meeting spaces, a coffee bar, the lobby and reception area and fitness room. The only spaces that we had to wait on were the room renovations. Those will be finished in 2026.

Near the end of the assignment myself and the Marketing Director proceeded to capture aerial images of the exterior of the hotel and its property. We accomplished that using a variety of angles and elevations that showed both the architecture and the surrounding cityscape.

One of the joys of having this career is the people I have the opportunity to work with. This project was no different. In fact I was treated exceptionally well from the moment I arrived on location. We spent half a day prepping for the first morning, which was instrumental in putting together strong content. The entire staff was professional, courteous and very hard working. I couldn’t have asked for a better team!

During a recent shoot in Cawston, BC, just north of Osoyoos I was fortunate to work with KG Industries. With me during the entire shoot was a dynamic pair of individuals, Andrea and Kirstie of Velvet Theory Inc. VT are an independent creative agency out of Calgary. They both put in a brilliant effort with shot lists, coordination and creative direction. They were vital in helping to create some powerful content.
Throughout the course of a long but enjoyable day we focused on: Aerial/drone site content, headshots and group shots, interior content (shipping/receiving, packaging, manufacturing, welding, assembly and finishing). During our staged actions we covered: Measuring, tuning, lifting, cutting, employee interaction and client connections. Because Velvet Theory had done such a good job on shoot prep we were able to get everything done within a ten hour timeline.

‘At KGI, we believe that reliability is the product of innovative engineering, attention to detail, and true dedication. With these values Al Genberg co-founded the company back in 1978 and these same values run deep through KGI today under Al’s son, Luke Genberg. Manufacturing of functional, reliable heavy-duty axles is the absolute priority for us.
Our family of employees live and breathe KGI values, otherwise you don’t stay for very long. A few of our employees who have been with us from the start are still with us today. We are a relatively small heavy duty axle manufacturer, numbering about 30 full-time employees who build approximately 3,500 axles per year. But what we lack in size, we make up in capability.’

‘We take great pride in designing and manufacturing each of our products with the goal of providing the highest quality and performance possible at a reasonable price.
At KGI we use only the highest-quality materials, and thorough quality control techniques to insure the reliability and long life of our products.
Our reputation rests on our steadfast pursuit of this policy in our specialty axle products.

When you purchase any product from KGI, we encourage you to compare it, as we do, to competitive products for quality and performance. We believe this process will enhance your appreciation for the product you select.
We are able to focus on producing smaller volume, heavy-duty axles for specialized applications such as our staple Self-Steer, Force-Steer, and Off-Highway axles. In addition we often work with companies on engineering axles for their specific needs. Our standard heavy-duty over the road axles can be configured to a very high degree. These work with various suspensions, brake sizes, single and dual wheels, and various load ratings.’

‘Being close to the US border makes it cost effective for us to ship axles to our US customers FOB Washington State. Furthermore you will find our axles on equipment across north and south America and as far south as Chile, Australia and New Zealand.’

Although the day was a long one it was truly enjoyable. Everyone we worked with was accommodating, patient and understood the importance of what the assignment meant. Striking visual marketing material is one of the best ways to showcase and grow a business. Having continuity in the creative process is one of the main keys to success.

Please, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, Kamloops and the surrounding area is a regional masterpiece. The diversity is immense and the scenery in all directions has its own character and flavor. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to capture every direction and every season.
Prints come in a variety of sizing options. Typically, a 3:2 ratio or 2:1 panoramic and sizes up to 60″ for a single image. Another popular option is the tri-panel. The largest tri-panel reaches 95″. For materials I deal almost exclusively with canvas or metal, both are stunning. Wall sized images on vinyl can also be applied. A third party printer and installer would be needed.

Here is an example showcasing an image with three applications: Original perspective, panoramic and tri-panel.

A sampling of Kamloops’ city images that have been installed locally as single and tri-panel prints.

Stock images are images that have been licensed for commercial use. Those applications can include the following: Websites (homepage banner or internal), print or web ad production and advertising, internal newsletters or reports and a host of other uses. Cost is determined by the length of the duration, image size and circulation. Below are some examples of Kamloops prints and stock images.

This is a very small sampling of what I have to offer both in prints and stock images. To see more head to my portfolio page here Email to kfunk@telus.net or call @ 250.320.4055 for your specific needs. Cheers!

From its inception, drone technology has had a huge impact on marketing and advertising. That continues to this day, and in fact almost every commercial sector has enjoyed its advantages. Commercial Aerial Photography in the Okanagan, done properly and by a professional licensed photographer with Transport Canada is cost effective and extremely valuable for commercial purposes. Previously, commercial aerial photography was done using helicopters; this is not cost effective and they are limited in their approach and proximity to the subject matter.

Updated regulations from Transport Canada have created a new culture amongst commercial aerial photographers. Finally, we’re seeing an end to the negative stigma caused by reckless pilots of the past and this in turn has opened the floodgates to creative freedom, done legally and properly for clients. Most, if not all photographers will claim that aerial photography has likely added an injection of enthusiasm to their work. And this in turn has led to a higher level of end product and ultimately allows the client to profit.

The Okanagan region of BC is one of the largest growth areas in Canada right now. From light and heavy industry, commercial and residential developments, agriculture, film and tv, forestry, manufacturing and others, opportunities abound. And, with that comes commercial applications. Because those applications have so much value, a client needs to be aware of what they can do and how to maximize them. Aerial photography is a valuable tool that can be used.
Below are more examples of commercial sectors using aerial technology in the Okanagan.

Based in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia, not surprisingly a large percentage of my workload comes from the area. Being strictly a commercial photographer now for over twenty years I’ve experienced most economic sectors. Those include such areas as: Agriculture, clean energy, architecture and construction, fisheries, finance, manufacturing, mining, health care, technology, tourism, education and many more.
When I summarize to people how the model of commercial photography works, the foundation is really about producing visual content for clients. This in turn allows them to market and sell their services, products or destination.

Here in the Okanagan, we have a wide range of sectors, which for me is exciting. One of the perks about producing this kind of imagery is the experience of learning about different corporations and businesses. Working with people and building relationships in a variety of settings though is probably my favorite aspect of the work, but to be honest I love it all. Whether it be capturing large or small scenarios with the drones or working in close quarters with people showcasing services, the diversity keeps me on point.

On the topic of aerial/drone photography, it’s important to note that I am an ‘Advanced Pilot’ through Transport Canada. This allows me, with the coordination of Nav Canada to fly virtually anywhere, legally. There’s been a tremendous amount of negative press around drones (much of which is justified), but with the tighter regulations those negative scenarios are almost non-existent. This in turn makes flying one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of the work. There’s nothing like being able to achieve a desired perspective without creative limits.

The imagery you’re viewing here is a cross section of some of my recent work of commercial photography in the Okanagan. Enjoy and to see and read more head over to my commercial web page here.

Recently I had the distinct pleasure to work with the lovely owners and instructors of the newly opened Yoga Collective in downtown Kamloops. Described as “a quaint space for intimate classes that are very beginner friendly and welcoming to all, with a focus on energy, light, and positivity. Our teachers will boost your mood, help you improve your practice, and ease your mind.” Their website can be visited here. They also have Instagram and Facebook pages.

Ashley’s yoga journey started in her early 20’s as she travelled for college. She was privileged to learn from many different teachers in various places. Breathwork, meditation, and kundalini are areas she loves to explore. And she believes deeply in the mindfulness benefits of the practice, more than just the physical.
After returning to Kamloops in 2018 Ashley has enjoyed learning from local guides such as: Melissa Hubbard, Wayne Porterfield, Dina Mcleod, Nicole Aracki, and Leilani Ried. Ashley completed her 200 hour YTT in 2021 and will complete a Kundalini teacher training in March of 2024.

Alysia’s yoga journey started in her mid 20’s and she quickly fell in love with the practice. After the birth of her son 5 years later, she struggled to find who she was, jumping into Yoga Teacher Training to help figure it all out. She never expected that training to completely transform and heal her life. Committed to yoga as a daily practice and a way of living, she brings some spice to her flow classes and enjoys facilitating Moon Meditation classes.
Alysia is currently completing her Somatic Educator certification. She offers unique perspectives to turn inwards and focus on the body, as well as the breath throughout class.

The city and surrounding areas of Kamloops, BC continues to rapidly expand and change. I’ve had the privilege to record those changes over the last twenty two years or so. Now, with the advantages of drone technology, capturing Kamloops BC city images, including its centre, neighborhood expansions and new commercial ventures continues in new and exciting ways.

As a commercial photographer, recording the different nuances of the city is imperative. It allows businesses and corporations to utilize these images to market themselves and Kamloops itself. Below, you’ll see more examples of the beauty and diversity that Kamloops offers. One of the most rapidly growing cities per capita in all of Canada, business is flourishing here and lifestyle is one of the main draws. Sun Peaks Resort, only 45 minutes away adds to the many attributes.

Image licensing is available for business or corporate needs. I can be reached at kfunk@telus.net to see more.

Kamloops aerial drone commercial photography is an integral part of a complete commercial photography package, whether that be: Industrial, commercial or residential development, architecture, economic development, agriculture or tourism. An elevated perspective adds diversity, depth and perspective to ground work. This creates a total marketing and advertising tool kit for the client and memorable and emotive images for their customers.

It’s definitely cost-effective to use a drone for your advertising and marketing content. When it comes to delivering images of the exterior of a structure or development, a drone is the least expensive option, yet delivers the best quality results because it provides an emotive and intimate quality that is impossible to achieve with any other method.

Nav Canada has a very stringent and detailed set of rules and regulations concerning the use of drones in controlled or restricted air space. In most cities and towns the majority of air space is usually controlled and requires an ‘Advanced drone pilot’s license’. The photographer then coordinates the flight to ensure total safety with all parties involved. It’s wise to pose that question to anyone who’s flying due to the legal ramifications.

Enjoy the following examples of recent work in the Kamloops, Okanagan and lower mainland regions.
