Please, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, Kamloops and the surrounding area is a regional masterpiece. The diversity is immense and the scenery in all directions has its own character and flavor. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to capture every direction and every season.
Prints come in a variety of sizing options. Typically, a 3:2 ratio or 2:1 panoramic and sizes up to 60″ for a single image. Another popular option is the tri-panel. The largest tri-panel reaches 95″. For materials I deal almost exclusively with canvas or metal, both are stunning. Wall sized images on vinyl can also be applied. A third party printer and installer would be needed.

Here is an example showcasing an image with three applications: Original perspective, panoramic and tri-panel.

A sampling of Kamloops’ city images that have been installed locally as single and tri-panel prints.

Stock images are images that have been licensed for commercial use. Those applications can include the following: Websites (homepage banner or internal), print or web ad production and advertising, internal newsletters or reports and a host of other uses. Cost is determined by the length of the duration, image size and circulation. Below are some examples of Kamloops prints and stock images.

This is a very small sampling of what I have to offer both in prints and stock images. To see more head to my portfolio page here Email to kfunk@telus.net or call @ 250.320.4055 for your specific needs. Cheers!

The city and surrounding areas of Kamloops, BC continues to rapidly expand and change. I’ve had the privilege to record those changes over the last twenty two years or so. Now, with the advantages of drone technology, capturing Kamloops BC city images, including its centre, neighborhood expansions and new commercial ventures continues in new and exciting ways.

As a commercial photographer, recording the different nuances of the city is imperative. It allows businesses and corporations to utilize these images to market themselves and Kamloops itself. Below, you’ll see more examples of the beauty and diversity that Kamloops offers. One of the most rapidly growing cities per capita in all of Canada, business is flourishing here and lifestyle is one of the main draws. Sun Peaks Resort, only 45 minutes away adds to the many attributes.

Image licensing is available for business or corporate needs. I can be reached at kfunk@telus.net to see more.

When I spoke to the current Community Development Coordinator, Meghan Burrage about potentially coming to the Village of Clinton to spend a couple of days creating new content for their Economic Development and tourism marketing, I was immediately intrigued, due to a couple of things: 1. Diversified and interesting content and 2. Stunning setting and outlying areas, namely Edge Hills Provincial Park west of Clinton. These types of gigs are always eye opening for me because like most I’m sure I’ve driven by this town dozens of times over the years. It’s when you spend a solid few days here though that you’re really able to become a bit more immersed in the culture and feel. What I came away with was a professional community with the insight and progressive thought ready for growth. Thus the title, Faces & Spaces of Clinton, BC.

My main objective, although two-fold as described had emphasis on the people and their businesses, which was incredibly uplifting due to the positive vibe in the Village. Laid back but on point which made my job a lot of fun. Showcasing the Village’s current construction project added an additional element to the project.

From their website: The Village of Clinton is a small friendly community located in one of the most pristine natural environments in the world, while still being close and accessible to larger centres. Clinton is located on Highway 97, midway between Vancouver and Prince George.
Clinton has a colorful history of over 150 years and was founded as a direct result of the “boom” of the Cariboo Gold Rush. This active community of 650 residents has a unique western atmosphere, stunning scenery, and an abundance of recreational opportunities. Incorporated in 1963, Clinton boasts hosting one of British Columbia’s oldest continuously running events; the Clinton Annual Ball, now held in May of each year.

There’s several beautiful parks, trails, and lookouts with incredible scenery just outside of Clinton. Here’s a few: Big Bar Provincial Park, Downing Provincial Park (Kelly Lake), Edge Hills Provincial Park (Cougar Point), Chasm Ecological Reserve and Clinton Creek Falls just to name a few.

It was a memorable and educational trip for myself and one that I didn’t know would happen due to our fire ravaged summer. But in the end, the smoke cleared and we were able to complete our Faces and Spaces project.

Simply put, Kamloops stock photography is images that have been acquired at various times which can then be used for a variety of purposes to further your business or corporation. My focus for impactful, emotive stock images is in and around the Kamloops, British Columbia region. As a result, sought after images consists of the following: Cityscapes, regional landscapes including large scale panoramas, macro or close up and even local wildlife.
Client examples about who may find regional and Kamloops stock photography useful to purchase would be: Website developers, tourism destinations, Government agencies, businesses and corporations, graphic designers and even publication companies for artwork. The possible uses for strong stock photography are endless and can help to solidify messaging, create an emotional draw for their clients and add value to their product or service. That also includes internal use in the way of wall art. Here are two examples from local companies that have utilized stock images in order to promote and engage their customers: Fulton Law and Sagehills dental Group.
Stock sales are based on a number of variables such as usage (i.e. website or internal reports), sizing, duration and circulation. Commercial applications are normally more costly due to the fact that good imagery can dramatically increase revenues. I have personalized software for the calculation that takes in the relevant information and dictates pricing; this way the pricing structure is always standard for all clients.

There are a multitude of reasons why powerful regional imagery can help local and corporate businesses, government agencies, designers and advertising agencies. But, it needs to be strong. If you water down your brand with weaker visual content, it will quite possibly have a negative effect. Because my constant pursuit is to produce stellar content my clients continually come back to me. They know they’ll get the very best the region has to offer.
Aside from my stock image library I’m always available for commercial and tourism commissioned projects. Twenty years brings experience, knowledge and a guaranteed high quality product. To see more of my work, head to my website here. Cheers, Kelly

Heading up to Sun Peaks for any assignment always puts a smile on my face. The day most often starts early, the scenery is stunning and the people I work and associate with are salt of the earth. I always feel a lot lighter after spending time there and the promise of a Nordic day at Sun Peaks Resort was certainly no exception.

Tourism Sun Peaks had carved out some really emotive locales to showcase aspects of the day, which included: Skate and cross country skiing, dog and family friendly trails, and ending with some apres ski dining and drinks at the newly redesigned outdoor patio at Mantles at Sun Peaks Grand. We had scheduled a 3 day weather window a couple of weeks back in the hopes that one of the days would be a stunner; as luck would have it our planning paid off.

We ended up producing a diverse end product that also included drone/aerial imagery, both on the trail and at the McGillivray Lake cabin (warming hut).

For those interested Sun Peaks has a page on their website specifically dedicated to Nordic skiing; you can find it here. Their network of trails, as well as the Nordic Centre is second to none and caters to skiers of all levels, including rentals for those wanting to give it a go. Enjoy the rest of the images from our day. After all these years I’m still a bit floored at the ‘getaway feel’ that this place which is a mere 45 minutes from Kamloops can instill. I’m never short of creativity or energy up here and I’m grateful it’s in our backyard.

Hello my new friend, 2021!
In a ‘normal’ year the business of photography is a rapidly changing and evolving animal, needing the owners’ full attention to trending markets, economic landscapes (both present and immediate future), innovative styles or approaches, new equipment that can open up new worlds and alter your final product and a host of other factors that we must always be on the lookout for. As we are all too aware that was no normal year! I, like most am gob smacked happy it is over. The everyday worries that accompany our daily grind were magnified like no other year; but through it all, we soldier on. The accompanying project image highlights of 2020 culminate one of the most incredible years I’ve been through behind the camera and in the office. It was a year that needed pin-point focus, the ability to adapt and change on a moment’s notice and above all required a work ethic that was enormous, and at times difficult to muster.

But life and work move forward and ultimately there were many amazing, fun, touching, and emotive moments to cherish. As always, when I produce a ‘highlights of’ blog post like this, the images, and stories I choose are for a variety of reasons. It could be the people I was involved with either before or during the shoot, the memories that were created, a vision that became an expected final product or the friendships and business relationships that were born.

This year I chose more of a project perspective to showcase as opposed to single images from a shoot. I felt it was important to give more of a perspective to the entire process. Often projects require so much focus and dedication that I really do not get to enjoy the entirety of it until it’s over. In writing this it sounds almost sad, but the execution has always been one of my greatest joys; the memories from the entire project or shoot come to life though after it is complete.

I know I’m not alone in being ecstatic to see the calendar flip to 2021. Obviously, we still face huge challenges in all aspects of our lives, but it feels like we are climbing out of that proverbial dark space. So, on that note enjoy some project highlights from the year past and may we all have a much deserved and fantastic 2021!!

As always some of my favorite projects came from my long term clients like Sun Peaks Resort, Tourism Valemount, Aberdeen Mall, TNRD and many more. To see more of my work, head over to my portfolio page here. Cheers and all the best in the new year, Kelly

First off, you may be wondering about the title of this blog; Tourism Valemount – Three Ranges Country; what the heck is 3 Ranges? Well, this is where the town site of Valemount is situated, between the Rocky, Monashee, and Cariboo Mountains. The slogan of Valemount is, ‘Let the Mountains Move You’, and after spending any time here you just know they nailed it on the head. The paragraph below is taken directly from Wiki on the origin of the town:
“The naming of Valemount is well described in an article published in 1977 celebrating 50 years of Valemount: “Kushnir, a young fellow employed by the C.N.R., was again called upon to pick up his bag and walk, so to speak, as a new location had been picked for the station. The move was soon accomplished but engineers, brakies and men of the ‘road’ were reluctant to keep Swift Creek as the name for the station with the result that a few thoughtful hours were spent by many thinking of a new name.
Noticing that the area was actually a valley between mountains, the word Valemount was passed along as the name for our village and so it came to pass that Bergoyne one of many suggested names was cast aside and Valley in the Mountains shortened to Valemount became the passenger stop and to date still is.” [Canoe Mountain Echo, Valemount reaches its 50th year, Oct 19, 1977]
There is also a quote in the Yellowhead Pass and its People book (Page 201): “Valemount, this name, for the vale amid the mountains was coined for the C.N.R. station moved here in 1927.”
Originally slated for a two days, I was skeptical we were going to be able to accomplish the content list considering how unsettled the weather had been. Luckily the planning that had us shooting on the Cranberry marsh, (which has an absolutely stunning board walk along it and is literally at the edge of town) and then Kinbasket lake in the afternoon of the first day paid off. The day was beautiful and produced the type of product we were hoping for. Utilizing both ground and aerial cameras helped to deliver more diversity as well, especially on the lake, which has spectacular mountains on the south side.
On our second day we awoke to expected spotty weather, but the plan, starting with a bike/hike shoot up to Kinney lake was a good one in the sense that it was cooler during the trek and we were shooting most of the content in the trees without much sky. We stretched out our allowed time to a little over five hours and from there we immediately were back in town to tackle some golf at the Valemount Pines Golf Course; a quaint, well planned 9 hole course that offered up great scenery, fun and really generous hosts.
From here it was time for a short break before we tackled the famed and beloved ‘Three Ranges Brewing’. Here is a small excerpt from their site: A small brewery with dreams of introducing craft beer to a mountain village has grown to a small brewery now serving two provinces experiencing a full out craft beer explosion. What we envisioned has grown to so much more. In five years, we have seen many changes, but one thing continues to shine through….our customers. You are steady and supportive.Thank you so much. We look forward to writing the 70 in Dog Years update.
Lastly we wrapped with some casual content in the downtown core, utilizing a great family who helped us with the modeling at Kinbasket lake. I’ll let the images from the trip tell the story, however I first have to give thanks to my friend, awesome adventure model and motivator when I get creatively drained, Ashley. She has joined myself and Tourism Valemount on many of these multi-day shoots and always helps produce a better product. Jennifer Robinson, the Marketing Coordinator deserves, as always a huge shout for all the work she does behind the scenes in allowing these assignments to come together, and lastly but certainly not least, all the models that showed up to help create. Wow, what a bunch of special, down to earth people who made the trip a very special one!
Enjoy the images of the stunning area and to see more of my work, head over to my portfolio here. Cheers, K

The days I enjoy most in the field are ones that include diverse content. Commercially, this could end up being anything from a dental office, agriculture or a commercial development. Tourism work is no different, the more places, activities and people I get to experience in a day, the happier I am. An added bonus for me is when the work gets challenging, that’s when I really love to produce. Now, it’s no secret that I love teaming up with either Tourism Sun Peaks or the corporation, www.sunpeaksresort.com, the resort is such a close escape from every day life in the city. The scenery, experiences and down to earth people make for great days and memories. Couple that with the fact that helping and working locally is even more important to me right now and you have the makings for a great day. Last Saturday started in the early afternoon under the direction of Tourism Sun Peaks. One of the priorities was capturing the public sitting in the hearts drawn at the local field to facilitate social distancing while watching circus performers. That was fairly quick and immediately processed and sent for use on Hello BC’s Instagram page, as well as Sun Peaks’ IG and Facebook feeds.
Following that, the Marketing Coordinator, Corry and I headed to the village to cover coffee at Elevation and dining with some local athletes after a mountain bike ride enjoying a cold bevy or two! The models had it so rough
Then came the highlight, a truck ride up to the top of the Burfield chair and a trek in to a number of trails for some (hopefully) strong content of sunset alpine hiking in the wildflowers. There’s a number of elements that have to fall into place in order to execute strong content; some of it’s within a photographer’s control, some not. You just have to hope for the weather gods to come through for you because a shoot like this one takes some logistical planning that can’t happen every day. As I mentioned earlier, the more challenging the conditions the more I enjoy myself. Problem solving has always been a vital part of photography and that night provided some thought and proper execution. Mainly that involved light control and exposure to ensure high quality results. A ‘hot’ sky needs to be handled with care in order for the emphasis to remain on the topography and people. I use two distinct techniques for this that have helped me over the years. TSP asked for an expansive and semi-expansive look and feel, meaning not too tight on the models (Corry and Bill), allowing for the wildflowers and experiential feel to take precedence. Corry is a pro so the models were the easy part! As for the weather gods that night, well they came through with some low elevation color in the sky and beautiful, soft clouds to help tell our story. Enjoy the images below and to see more of my work, head to my portfolio here. Cheers, have a good one!

If you come into the eastern end of this ‘turn back the clock’ landscape like I did it will be via the High Bar rd. By all accounts this 23-25% grade isn’t unsafe, it’s just a bit daunting and needs your utmost attention. I drive an SUV and had to stop a couple of times due to some large rocks that I thought might hit the front skid plate. I would imagine that’s not uncommon due to the steepness of the mountain this road is carved out of. Now, all caution aside, when you get to lay your eyes on this valley for the first time it really does make a bit of an impact on your breathing.
Before you get into the meat and potatoes of this gem you’ll first see some farmland and a farm house that must be at least 100 years old. After a few hours in this valley it definitely starts to feel closed off from the rest of the world so I can’t imagine how these farmers managed back in the day. At that time, and it’s important to note the High Bar Indian Band were prominent not far west of here. Here is an excerpt from their website. ”
The High Bar First Nation is a First Nations government of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, located in the Fraser Canyon – Cariboo region of the Central Interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It was created when the government of the then – Colony of British Columbia established an Indian Reserve system in the 1860s. It is one of four Secwepemc bands that is not a member of either the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council or the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council.
The High Bar people are known as the Llenlleney’ten. The Secwepemc in the Fraser Canyon and on the Chilcotin Plateau are also known as the Canyon Shuswap and have traditionally had close ties with the Tsilhqot’in people.
This was assignment based and part of a large day that started north of here in Green Lake, west to 70 mile, south to Clinton and finally over to Big Bar. I would definitely love to go back for a more thorough exploration!
I’ll leave you with these images to get a general feel of the area. The other access is from the western end via the High Bar Ferry road. Cheers and to see more of my work, click the link here.

It really is a bit of a visceral shock to the system to realize we were just part of another decade past. The blink of an eye when you consider the age of this blue planet, but a significant chunk of a time in the life of most humans. It’s at times like this that I like to reflect on the positives that came from the past 10 years; obviously not without both small and significant challenges, but overall a pretty incredible journey full of great memories.
But, before I give a brief outline and a compilation of my favorite images and shoots of the year that just passed, it’s important that I give thanks for the previous 10. Mostly, the thanks goes to my clients, supporters and friends and family who have made it possible for me to create the imagery that I’m so passionate about. Whether it be client or area stock related I still hold a deep respect for what goes on behind the camera, and ultimately the final result. It’s no secret that Kamloops and the entirety of the Thompson Okanagan region is a special place; one that feels very much like an extension of me now. So, it is with great gratitude that I’m able to work and showcase this region.

The people here hold traits that I feel are unique in their qualities, and with every passing year I enjoy meeting and getting to know those people more and more. When I started this journey I was working in enforcement in Prince George. I would escape to the Rockies on the weekends to capture wildlife. They were quiet times, times to learn about who I was and what I wanted in life. Now, after 19 years as a full-time commercial photographer the solitude of those trips has given way to building friendships and client relationships; and that is the way I want it. Thank you for being a huge part of this journey!
On that note, I’ve included 35 images from 35 different shoots of the year just passed. They aren’t in any specific order and they contain a mix of commercial work, ranging from people to industry, tourism, conceptual and regional landscapes. They’re in this collection for a few reasons: I’ve felt strongly about the final result, the experience was fantastic, I was with or worked with special people, or a combination of some or all the above. Enjoy the images and I look forward to another great year and decade ahead

Finally, I wanted to share the news that I am now a licensed drone pilot with Transport Canada and you’ll see several drone images in this collection. With the newest technology I’m able to produce results from the air that I’m finally happy to share with my clients. With the added benefit of aerial work I look forward to producing an even more diverse and complete product.
To see more of my work head over to my portfolio page here. Cheers, Kelly
